October Meeting Information

The California Watershed Council - The California Watershed Council (Council) was established following the signing of an MOU (required by AB 2534 – Pavley) by Cal/EPA and the Resources Agency. The Council will provide the framework for coordination and integration of watershed programs and agencies. Why was the MOU needed? Will the Council be able to assist agencies in providing better coordination and integration of the state’s watershed programs? What will be the role of the Council in disbursing Prop 40 and Prop 50 grant money?

Mojave Water Agency - The Mojave Water Agency (MWA) is responsible for managing the water resources over a 4,900 square mile area of the Mojave Desert, an area larger than Los Angeles County. After fast-paced growth throughout the 1990s, the MWA is tackling many challenges including groundwater overdraft, growing water supply needs, and water quality problems. Kirby Brill, General Manager, will address the Water Dialogue on these challenges and the new Regional Water Management Plan Update (Phase 2) that will guide the MWA approach to water resources management.

Prop 50 Update - DHS and SWRCB – Representatives from the Department of Health Services and SWRCB will speak on the criteria and procedures for Prop 50 water quality and drinking water quality grant funding (Chapter 4).

Southern California Water Dialogue Mission Statement: Participants in the Southern California Water Dialogue meet voluntarily to explore water-related issues of vital interest to our region.
