Meeting Information
There will be a briefing and discussion on the use of state "Action Levels" as regulatory criteria for permitting Title 22 recycled water. The Water Dialogue will explore whether these new RWQCB permitting standards could eliminate the use of recycled water for groundwater recharge and irrigation purposes? Drinking Water Action Levels are health-based advisory levels established by the DHS for chemicals for which primary maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) have not been adopted. An Action Level is the level of a contaminant in drinking water that is considered not to pose a significant health risk to people ingesting that water on a daily basis.

This briefing will be a constructive discussion of the facts of the issues and the potential impact on water supply reliability in the southern California region and throughout the state. Dennis Dickerson, Executive Officer of the Los Angeles RWQCB, will participate in the briefing along with Gary Yamamoto from DHS, Fran Spivy-Weber, a member of the Water Reuse Task Force, and a representative from a regional water agency. In addition to the recycled water discussion, we will be joined by Kathy Cole, MWD's Legislative Representative, for an update on the new administration and the upcoming legislative session.

The meeting will close with a presentation on the recent survey conducted by the Southern California Water Dialogue entitled the "Snapshot Questionnaire." Retail water agencies in the region provided information that identifies current and future sources of supply, current and future demand, and investments planned to improve drinking water quality and supply reliability. Information from the Snapshot Questionnaire will be used in the regional sections of the State Water Plan - Bulletin 160.
