Meeting Announcement
Featured topic: Implementing SB 221 (Kuelh)/610 (Costa) The Challenge and the Controversy
The Southern California Water Dialogue will meet on Tuesday, May 18th from noon - 3 pm at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California headquarters, 700 N. Alameda, Los Angeles, (213) 217-6000.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 am (RSVP to [email protected] if you plan on joining us for lunch).
Meeting Information
The Southern California Water Dialogue will explore how public water systems are complying with the new law set forth by SB 221 (Kuehl) and SB 610 (Costa). The Keuhl/Costa legislation requires that public water systems assess whether sufficient water supplies are, or will be, available prior to completion of development projects over 500 dwelling units in size. Without sufficient supply, projects may not move forward in the approval process.
Ed Casey, a lawyer with Weston Benshoof and head of the firm's water resource practice, will explore the legal decisions leading up to Kuehl/Costa, different approaches to calculating the reliability of State Water Project water and groundwater, and other challenges of complying with Kuehl/Costa. Following Mr. Casey's presentation, there will be a full discussion between Water Dialogue participants on how water agencies are complying with Kuehl/Costa.
Southern California Water Dialogue Mission Statement: Participants in the Southern California Water Dialogue meet voluntarily to explore water-related issues of vital interest to our region. The Dialogue serves as a clearinghouse and advocate for projects, activities, and processes that will improve the quality and reliability of Southern California's water supply and benefit the California Bay-Delta Authority (Authority). The Dialogue also is an avenue to represent Southern California's interests to the Authority and provide information about the Authority to our region.
