The Steering Committee of the Water Dialogue sends its warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday season.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 20th - back to our regular 3rd Tuesday of the month meeting schedule.

TOPIC: The Use of Actions Levels as Regulatory Criteria to Permit Recycled Water Uses: How new LA Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) permitting standards could eliminate the use of recycled water for groundwater recharge and irrigation purposes.

There will be a briefing and discussion on the use of state "Action Levels" as regulatory criteria for permitting Title 22 recycled water. Drinking Water Action Levels are health-based advisory levels established by the DHS for chemicals for which primary maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) have not been adopted. An Action Level is the level of a contaminant in drinking water that is considered not to pose a significant health risk to people ingesting that water on a daily basis.

This briefing will be a constructive discussion of the facts of the issues and the potential impact on water supply reliability in the southern California region and throughout the state. Dennis Dickerson, Executive Officer of the Los Angeles RWQCB will participate in the briefing along with a representative from DHS and West Basin MWD. In addition to the recycled water discussion, we will be joined by Kathy Cole, MWD's Legislative Representative, for an update on the new administration and the upcoming legislative session.
