April 15th
The Southern California Water Dialogue Group will meet on Tuesday, April 15th from noon - 3 pm at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California headquarters, 700 N. Alameda, Los Angeles, (213) 217-6000. The Steering Committee will meet from 10:00 - 11:30 am on the same date and in the same place (check with desk for room number).
Lunch will be at 11:30 am (RSVP to [email protected], if you plan on joining us for lunch).
This month's meeting will focus on TMDLs and how they relate to water supply and water quality. A TMDL, or Total Maximum Daily Load, is a calculation of the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can receive and still meet water quality standards, and an allocation of that amount to the pollutant's sources.
For many water agencies and organizations, the TMDL issue receives little attention. Should TMDLs be important to water agencies and organizations and, if so, why? Presentations will be provided by the Regional Water Quality Control Board*, an environmental organization*, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. Case studies on the Calleguas Creek Watershed Management Plan and the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council's Water Augmentation Study will demonstrate how TMDLs are being handled by local water agencies and watersheds.
